For her retrospective, Shannon chose to investigate the life and works of Antoni Gaudi. Her final piece is a stunning, professionally-printed book that includes many of her own photographs and glossy pages – some of which fold open. In the back, she included a small 2009 pocket calendar in four languages.
.
Her development work was laid out on large pages and included a booklet with internet research and a Gaudi CV as well as some pamphlets she picked up from various exhibitions.

Shannon’s decade assignments covered the 1920s and 1960s.
.
She neatly presented her assignments in clear binders and a nice folder for development work. I will post the final submissions as well as some of her development pages. She had also included a bibliography for each decade in folders with internet research.
.
In the final submissions, she included some transparent images that were popular at the time which made a nice touch. Note that some of the scans came out with some funky colours, but as usual, it’s just so you get the idea!

without comments

Stephen chose Robert Rauschenberg as the subject of his artist retrospective. Tate Modern was his chosen venue for the exhibition.
.
As with the decade assignment for this unit, Stephen submitted a wide array of background research leading up to his final piece which is a 20-page booklet from cover to cover. The work, including over 50 pages of initial planning, was submitted in a professional binder (and a heavy one at that!)

Stephen chose the 1910s and 1950s for his decades assignment. In a minimum of 1,000 words, he had to present each decade in terms of art and design and how these aspects of life were influenced by historical events.
.
Presented in some heavy-duty professional binders, Stephen laid out his plans over 50+ pages that included scribbled thoughts, internet research, examples of art movements and historical events of each decade, mind maps, layout ideas, page guides, typography research, colour decisions, bibliography, etc.
.
Below is the final presentation for each decade designed in the style of the time and a sample of the background work included.

Amanda chose Cesar Manrique for her retrospective project. Manrique is a painter, sculptor, architect, landscape artist, urban designer and environmentalist, best known for his work in planning and developing the tourist potential of Lanzarote.
.
Designing her final booklet in the shape of the island, Amanda used the back of each rotating page to present a fragment of some painting, sculpture or work by Manrique or a place on the island that came about from his influence.
.
She put all of this together in a sketch book that showed her research including photos, written notes, ticket stubs, brochures, internet research, drawings, bibliography, etc. along with rejected ideas shown partially developed.
.
Below are the scanned front pages of the final brochure with the writing.
.

.
Here are just a few images of the back side of some of these pages so you get an idea of the overall booklet.

.
And finally, here is a small selection of the research and development work Amanda submitted.
