HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing: Decades (Distinction)
Shannon’s decade assignments covered the 1920s and 1960s.
.
She neatly presented her assignments in clear binders and a nice folder for development work. I will post the final submissions as well as some of her development pages. She had also included a bibliography for each decade in folders with internet research.
.
In the final submissions, she included some transparent images that were popular at the time which made a nice touch. Note that some of the scans came out with some funky colours, but as usual, it’s just so you get the idea!

HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing: Decades (Distinction)
Stephen chose the 1910s and 1950s for his decades assignment. In a minimum of 1,000 words, he had to present each decade in terms of art and design and how these aspects of life were influenced by historical events.
.
Presented in some heavy-duty professional binders, Stephen laid out his plans over 50+ pages that included scribbled thoughts, internet research, examples of art movements and historical events of each decade, mind maps, layout ideas, page guides, typography research, colour decisions, bibliography, etc.
.
Below is the final presentation for each decade designed in the style of the time and a sample of the background work included.

In a minimum of 1,000 words for each final piece, Ewan had to investigate the historical events of the decade and write an analysis on how they influenced art and design movements. The final document was to represent the style of the decade.

HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing: Decades (Distinction)
For the decade assignment in unit 2, Laura chose to explore the 1940s and 1970s. Using vibrant designs in her background Laura takes us through the ups and downs of the art and design world in both decades.
.
Below you will see her mood boards, essays and bibliograhy for each decade. She also submitted binders full of internet research not shown.

HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing: Decades
Michelle chose to investigate the 1930s and 1950s for her decade assignment as part of HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing. She laid out the pages of her report in a magazine-type style to allow her to capture the aura of each decade she presented.
.
The assignment itself was to research and draw conclusions about the distinctive art and design style of the decade and how this was formed or shaped by the historical events of that time.
.
Along with her finished reports, Michelle submitted a hefty binder of research, a few pieces of which I’ve scanned below. She has also turned in a great bibliography example.

HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing: The Decades Assignment
One of Rosie’s assignments for HNGD 002 was to choose two decades which she had to research. Her task was to draw conclusions about the world’s historical events of these decades and how they influenced art and design movements then present this information in a graphical essay of approximately 1000 words. The main purpose of this assignment was to test research skills. Rosie’s well-written assignment (which you probably can’t read from such small jpeg images) was accompanied by a great example of a long Harvard Referencing bibliography.
.
If anyone can tell me how to make these images larger without blurring the words, go for it. But you can get the general idea here.
.
Rosie chose to look at 1910-1920 and 1970-1980.

Note that with this assignment, you should also be submitting a folder full of research.
