HNGD 006 Ideas in Context: Preview Night (Distinction)

without comments

Sue’s task for this assignment was to create an identity for a special event of her choice. She created an identity for an event called Ring of Fire: A Tribute to Johnny Cash. Her development work was presenting in large binders and the posters, brochure and invites neatly mounted on foam boards. She even designed a teeshirt which she had printed and sent neatly folder in a clear, labelled bag.

HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing: Artist Retrospective (Distinction)

without comments

Stephen chose Robert Rauschenberg as the subject of his artist retrospective. Tate Modern was his chosen venue for the exhibition.
.
As with the decade assignment for this unit, Stephen submitted a wide array of background research leading up to his final piece which is a 20-page booklet from cover to cover. The work, including over 50 pages of initial planning, was submitted in a professional binder (and a heavy one at that!)

HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing: Retrospective (Distinction)

Amanda chose Cesar Manrique for her retrospective project. Manrique is a painter, sculptor, architect, landscape artist, urban designer and environmentalist, best known for his work in planning and developing the tourist potential of Lanzarote.
.
Designing her final booklet in the shape of the island, Amanda used the back of each rotating page to present a fragment of some painting, sculpture or work by Manrique or a place on the island that came about from his influence.
.
She put all of this together in a sketch book that showed her research including photos, written notes, ticket stubs, brochures, internet research, drawings, bibliography, etc. along with rejected ideas shown partially developed.
.
Below are the scanned front pages of the final brochure with the writing.
.

.
Here are just a few images of the back side of some of these pages so you get an idea of the overall booklet.

And finally, here is a small selection of the research and development work Amanda submitted.

HNGD 002 Historical and Contextual Referencing: Artist Retrospective

without comments

Laura’s assignment provides another example of the artist retrospective exhibition booklet. She chose to research and present the ever-influential designer Coco Chanel.
.
Laura had to plan a retrospective exhibition and create a booklet containing a minimum of 1,000 words. The writing should cover examples of the work she has chosen to exhibit and outline the historical context and era in which Chanel worked. It should include include her influences and biography. Laura also inserted a transparent floorplan for the exhibition.

Her fold-out booklet follows:

Ashley’s work provides another example of the artist retrospective exhibition brochure for assignment 1 in this unit. His choice was revolutionary style icon Vivienne Westwood who is considered by many the Queen of British Fashion.
.
Using her work as inspiration, Ashley had to research and plan a major retrospective exhibition, design and produce a booklet to accompany this event and write 1,000 words on her career.

HNGD 006 Ideas in Context: Preview Night (Distinction)

Derrick chose Iron Man for his preview night assignment. The task was to produce a preview night poster, a brochure, a free gift and an invite for the chosen event. Again, the process of creating the final submission was just as important as the end result.
.
The Final Submission:
This first photo is one Derrick took for the peer review site which was nicely laid out so you can see the final submission:

And there’s an idea of the preview night assignment for HNGD 006. Not all preliminary work was included here, but again, an idea.
