HNGD 006 Ideas in Context: Corporate Identity for a Chain Restaurant

without comments

For this project, Zoe chose to create a new identity for the chain restaurant Cafe Rouge. She studied their original menu, wine list, placemat and matchbox and those of other similar restaurants. From there, she designed some new material for Cafe Rouge. Alongside these items and examples from other establishments, Zoe submitted a statement explaining her choices and her development work.

HNGD 006 Ideas in Context: Corporate Identity for a Preview Night (Distinction)

Ashley chose to create a corporate identity for an IMAX movie premier of 5 Miles Deep. His final submission had to include preview night invitations, an advertising poster, brochure and a give away gift.

Ashley presented his work professionally printed and mounted on A2 foam boards along with an A3 booklet of development work and a smaller binder of research. Because he used a lot of holographic materials, it was difficult to get decent photos of some of it but you’ll get the idea.

Sue’s task for this assignment was to create an identity for a special event of her choice. She created an identity for an event called Ring of Fire: A Tribute to Johnny Cash. Her development work was presenting in large binders and the posters, brochure and invites neatly mounted on foam boards. She even designed a teeshirt which she had printed and sent neatly folder in a clear, labelled bag.

Clare chose Pizza Hut as the restaurant she would re-brand for this assignment. Her task was to look at existing examples of wine lists, menus, placemats and matchbox or chopstick container for both her restaurant and other similar venues. After familiarising herself with the industry, she was to re-design each of these objects. Because Pizza Hut doesn’t use matchbooks or chopsticks, Clare re-designed a crayon box instead.

Clare chose Cabaret as her focus for this assignment. Her task was to redesign the corporate identity for a preview night. She had to create an invitation, poster, brochure and a giveaway gift. Her gift was entrance to a club.

Derrick chose Iron Man for his preview night assignment. The task was to produce a preview night poster, a brochure, a free gift and an invite for the chosen event. Again, the process of creating the final submission was just as important as the end result.

And there’s an idea of the preview night assignment for HNGD 006. Not all preliminary work was included here, but again, an idea.

HNGD 006 Ideas in Context: Corporate Identity for a Chain Restaurant (Distinction)

with 2 comments

Derrick’s task for this assignment was to choose a chain restaurant in the UK and re-invent its corporate identity. Doing so, he was to come up with a menu, chopstick holder, placemat and wine list in true-sized samples using this new identity and his unique design.

Derrick chose to re-invent the identity of Wagamama.

The Final Submission:
(This first picture is from the UCK Flick’r group posted by Derrick because he laid it all out so nicely as a set.)

.

.
The Ideas Process:
(This is not a full sample of Derrick’s submission, but an idea of the process he went through to design the final products.)
.

Mind maps set the thought wheels in motion
.

.

Notes on original documents

.

.

Some inspiration
.

.

Sketches
.

.

Trying out some ideas
.

.

More sketches
.

Jotting down some notes
.

Testing colour options…
.

…and type
.

.

Placemat ideas
.

Chopstick ideas.
.
So you can see how Derrick tried out a few different ideas, themes, etc. for each piece of his final design. The ideas process is very important for this module which should include rejected ideas as well which you can see in Derrick’s submissions.
