HNGD 004 Ideas Generation: Pound Shop
After buying an item from a pound shop, Sue had to set out to create a new image for it. Her goal was to make it look like something worth £10 by redesigning the logo and packaging. This was a study in what gives value to a product, what makes it worth the price, and sometimes this is down to packaging. Sue chose a hanging garden chime to work with.

HNGD 001 Computer Application in Art and Design: Newsletter
For assignment two of unit 1, Sue had to create one page of a newsletter. Keep in mind again that Sue is using the older assignment briefs. The idea behind this assignment was to look at the relationship among typography, design and images. Sue chose environmental issues as the topic of her newsletter.

HNGD 001 Computer Application in Art and Design: Assignment 1
Sue had one of the older briefs for unit 1. Her first task was to work with painting and drawing software to produce the drawing of three objects of her choice pased on her own sketches. These should be vector-based objects. Sue chose a fruit bowl with apples, a clock and a multicoloured umbrella. Here’s a few sketches followed by the final submissions:

In part 2 of this assignment, Sue had to manipulate, enhance and montage scanned images using Photoshop. She created a concert poster, a montage of faces, and a dgital communications advert.

And the last part of this assignment was to design typography for a specific commercial brief. This involved Sue designing an album cover and a custom typeface for the logo of an image consultancy using illustrator and based on her own sketches:

Again, this is an old version of the unit 1 assignments so those of you coming into it now will be doing something a bit different.
HNGD 007 Drawing Techniques and Approaches: 3D Object (Distinction)
Choose and draw and organic object was the starting point for this assignment. After that, Derrick had to create three graphical representations.

Next, a final drawing had to be created:

The other part of this assignment was to explore the use of negative and positive space and different shapes to provide a variety of possible graphical solutions. Then create a final drawing and write a statement (not posted here) justifying your choices:

HNGD 007 Drawing Techniques and Approaches: Drawing Exercises
Derrick’s first task for this assignment was to visit a virtual art gallery and select an artwork to redraw on his drawing pad. Then choose another artwork and compare. This was the result, (keeping in mind that the quality of the drawings is much better in person when all the details come though!):

The next part of this assignment was the 2D to 2D Chiaro-Scuro graphic exercise which comes from a drawing called “Il Quatro Stato” by Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo given with the brief.
..
Next, Derrick was to select a small plant with many leaves, draw it first in black and white and second in colour.
